Growing Dendrobium Orchid Flowers
Orchids are some of the most beautiful flowers in the world. They've been used in painting and in pictures because of how utterly breathtaking they are. Dendrobium orchid flowers are among the most beautiful.
The Dendrobium orchid flower genus is truly expansive - it has over 1200 species. It originated in the Far East and western Pacific regions in 1799. The name Dendrobium is Greek and comes from the words 'dendron,' meaning tree, and 'bios,' life - taken together it means one who lives on trees which refers to the fact that Dendrobium orchid flowers typically grow on trees.
As stated above, Dendrobium orchid flowers grow naturally on living plants - like trees - or on rocks. They typically develop something called pseudobulbs, which are basically small storage bulbs that house the plant's energy. Some species have very long pseudobulbs; others have short ones.
Dendrobium orchid flowers typically grow very quickly during the summer but take a rest during the winter months. Buds erupt into shoots from the base of the pseudobulb in the spring, but it happens for some species in the autumn, so if you don't' have any flower buds you may have a species that only grows them during the autumn months.
How To Care For A Dendrobium Orchid Flower
Like most orchids - except fake silk Dendrobium orchids that don't need care - you have to follow specific instructions when caring for Dendrobium orchid flowers. They like things around them to be nice and hot. The ideal temperature to keep them at is somewhere between 75 and 85 degrees F during the day. At night, the temperature should be between 60 and 65 degrees F.
Dendrobium orchid flowers like morning sunlight but during the brightest times of day - as in, between 11am and 3pm - they need to be shaded so their leaves don't burn. They need less shading in the afternoon, but it's best to just have them under an overhead light.
When watering a Dendrobium orchid flower, make sure you allow their soil to dry out between the watering. As these types of orchids grow naturally on trees they're used to becoming dry between rains, after all. They need to be repotted every two years in springtime; after they bloom properly; or when a new growth cycle starts. That will keep them healthy.
Dendrobium orchid flowers are some of the most stunning on the planet. Like all orchids they require some care but for true orchid lovers the reward is well worth the effort.
